This series of photo collages is a continuum of the “Bodies on the Line” series, a collaborative series of paintings,drawings, and photographs created in collaboration with R. Douglass Rice and Sonoko Sugiyama. This series explores the relationship between the figurative and the abstract.

The traditional artist model relationship is turned upside down, as one becomes the other in the process of creation. These photo collages document the process of the drawings and paintings that Sugiyama Rice has been producing since 1999. On their own they created beautiful abstract images, consistent with Sugiyama Rice’s methodology of mixing the figurative and the abstract, using their own bodies as templates for abstraction.
